Starting from April 14 to June 29, 2025, the government will implement a significant crackdown on illegal immigrants as part of its “Five-Year Plan to Reduce Illegal Residency (2023-2027).” This extensive initiative, spanning 77 days, will involve a coordinated effort by multiple agencies including the Ministry of Justice, the National Police Agency, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Coast Guard.

Criminal Activities Threatening Public Safety
Crimes involving foreign nationals, such as drug trafficking and the operation of stolen vehicles, are prioritized in this enforcement action. -

Special attention will be given to foreign workers who may illegally occupy jobs in sectors like construction and courier services, areas that are particularly concerning for local employment opportunities. -
Human Trafficking and Illegal Entry Brokers
The crackdown will also target brokers who facilitate illegal immigration and promote the overstaying of visas.

The government has taken a firm stance that any refusal to comply with enforcement efforts, without just cause, will result in obtaining a warrant for forced action. Additionally, any interference with official duties may lead to criminal prosecution. Acting Minister of Justice, Kim Seok-woo, emphasized that “the cornerstone of a reassuring immigration policy is the establishment of order in residency.” He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to consistently carry out actions against illegal residency.
