Supporting Foreign Students in Employment
In a collaborative effort to assist international students seeking jobs in South Korea, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and Chungcheongbuk-do organized a unique event at Chungbuk National University. The “Chungcheongbuk-do International Students Job Fair,” held on October 31, 2024, provided an excellent platform for international students to connect with local businesses. It facilitated valuable exchanges between various companies and students, opening doors for employment opportunities.
Taking the First Step Towards Enhanced Employment for International Students
In response to the growing number of international students, the Ministry of Education is continuously developing strategies to help them secure jobs and establish their lives in Korea. A prime example is the “Study Korea 300K Project,” announced last year, which aims to attract 300,000 international students by 2027, positioning Korea among the top 10 study destinations in the world. This initiative encompasses various support mechanisms to facilitate academic success, employment, and settlement for overseas students, making the job fair a vital extension of this project.
To address the challenges of regional depopulation and the workforce shortages faced by local businesses, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups is collaborating with relevant departments to devise strategies that encourage companies to hire international students. The job fair was jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the SME Ministry, symbolizing a renewed commitment to aiding international students in finding jobs and settling in Korea.
The event attracted over 500 international students and more than 50 local businesses, making it larger than previous job fairs. This provided a significant opportunity for students in the region to explore diverse employment prospects.
Tailored Job Preparation Support and Visa Programs for Students
The recent job fair was focused on supplying international students with essential information and practical assistance to secure employment with local companies. Attendees were able to engage in direct consultations and interviews with prospective employers. Additionally, workshops were provided on resume writing and interview techniques to better prepare students for the job market.
Moreover, the Ministry of Justice set up visa consultation booths, ensuring that students would receive guidance regarding visa requirements for working in Korea. Notably, the fair presented opportunities for students to apply for region-specific visas (F-2-R) and professional visas (E-7), simplifying the process for international students to settle and work in Chungbuk.

Launch of the International Students’ Dedicated Online Job Platform ‘K-WORK’
Following the job fair, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups plan to maintain continuous support for international student employment through the launch of an online job platform. This platform aims to provide tailored job information and support the entire journey from studying abroad to landing a job.
The dedicated online job matching platform for foreign students, known as ‘K-WORK,’ will offer services like online resume creation and AI-driven company matching recommendations. This initiative is designed not only to assist students in preparing effectively for the job market but also to match them with companies looking to hire.
Additionally, the Ministry of Education’s Comprehensive System for Studying in Korea will enhance its offerings by providing information related to study life, employment counseling, and job listings, establishing a well-rounded support system for all international students.
