How to Invite Your Parents to Korea as a Naturalized Citizen
If you are a naturalized South Korean citizen who previously lived abroad and want to invite your parents, currently residing overseas, to Korea, the process differs based on your parents’ nationality and purpose of stay. Let’s explore the visa options available for inviting your parents to Korea.
1. Short-Term Visit Visa (C3-1)
If your parents wish to visit Korea for a short period, they can apply for the following visa:
C-3-1 (Short-Term General Visa): This visa is intended for tourism and personal visits.

- Proof of family relationship (Family Relation Certificate)
- Documents verifying your relationship with your parents (such as birth certificates)
- Round-trip flight tickets and proof of accommodation expenses
- Financial documents verifying the inviter’s ability to support their stay
⏳ Duration of Stay:
Up to 90 days
2. Long-Term Stay Visa (F-1-5)
If your parents wish to stay in Korea for an extended period to care for their grandchildren or live with you, the following visa options are available:
A. Support for Childcare
1) Eligibility for Inviter
- South Korean citizen spouse or a naturalized citizen with permanent resident status (F-5)
- Marriage immigrant who is married to a South Korean citizen
- Single-parent marriage immigrants
2) Eligible Invitees
- Those without any legal violations
- Biological parents of the marriage immigrant
- Siblings or children from previous relationships
3) Timing for Invitation
- Applicants can invite their parents until the end of September of the year their child turns 9 years old.
- Single-parent or multi-child families can invite until the end of September of the year their child turns 12 years old.
B. Humanitarian Grounds
1) Eligibility for Inviter
- South Korean citizen spouse or a naturalized citizen with permanent resident status (F-5)
- Single-parent marriage immigrants
- Marriage immigrants or their spouses with a severe illness or disability, including their children
2) Eligible Invitees
- Those without legal violations as mentioned above
- Biological parents, siblings, or children from previous relationships of the marriage immigrant

3. How Can Your Parents Obtain Permanent Residency in Korea? (F-5 Application)
If your parents wish to stay in Korea long-term, they may apply for the F-5 (Permanent Residency) visa. However, they need to meet specific requirements after a duration of stay before they can apply.
