Korea’s New e-Arrival Card System: Streamlining Entry for Foreigners
As of February 24, 2025, South Korea is set to enhance the entry process for foreign visitors with the implementation of the e-Arrival Card system. This new initiative allows travelers to submit their arrival declarations online starting three days before their arrival, significantly reducing wait times at the airport and creating a smoother entry experience.
What is the e-Arrival Card?
The e-Arrival Card is a digital system that enables foreign visitors to submit their entry information online, replacing the traditional paper entry forms. It holds the same legal weight as the paper format and aims to simplify the entry process, minimizing unnecessary procedures at the airport for a more efficient immigration check.
Who Needs to Use the e-Arrival Card? Exceptions to the Rule
Most foreign travelers entering South Korea are required to complete the e-Arrival Card. However, there are some exceptions, where submission is not necessary, including:
- Foreigners who have completed the registration process in South Korea (including permanent residents and those with a registered residence)
- Holders of group electronic visas
- Travelers with a valid electronic travel authorization (K-ETA)
- Airline crew members
The e-Arrival Card can be submitted starting three days before entering South Korea, and if a traveler does not arrive within 72 hours after submission, the application will be voided.
How to Complete the e-Arrival Card Process
Filing the e-Arrival Card is straightforward and can be done entirely online:
- Visit the official e-Arrival Card website (accessible via PC or mobile)
- Agree to the terms and conditions and enter your email address
- Fill in your passport details (name, date of birth, nationality, passport number, expiration date, etc.)
- Provide your entry and exit information (expected date of entry, flight number, accommodation details, contact information, etc.)
- Review your information and submit the form
Once submitted, travelers can download a PDF version or take a screenshot for their records, and an email confirmation will be sent.
Modifying and Checking Your e-Arrival Card
If you need to change your entry/exit details, accommodation, or contact information after submitting your e-Arrival Card, you can easily check and modify your application on the official website before going through immigration in South Korea.
